Automatically deals with IP requests by looking up available ones in a previously created plain text file and assigning them accordingly. Works great with network devices such as a printers or cameras, but it's not as flexible as the newer DHCP system.
BootP server listens for requests, looks up the address in a text file, and assigns it to the device. It works in a way DHCP does, only that DHCP is newer than BootP and it's way more flexible due to its simplicity and ease of use. After installation, define the addresses in the text file.
